45 + 4 min: Switzerland win a free kick after a push on Schertenleib. Vallotto is the taker again and sends it long, it’s cleared but it comes to Beney who gets a shot away and it hits the side of the netting. Half the stadium thought it was in. A whisker away.
45 + 2 min: There will be five minutes added. Time for a decisive goal? Absolutely.
45 min: It has been a very fairly balanced match with both throwing attacking hits so far, the only thing missing is a goal. Schertenleib tries to break the deadlock now with a great run but the long range effort is over the bar.
44 min: Manchester City fans will love that sight, an excellent bit of defensive work from their new signing Beney as Jonsdottir attempted to get a shot away.
42 min: Jonsdottir, who is known for a long throw in, launches the ball into the box and Iceland direct the ball on target but Peng saves.
40 min: Here comes the noise as Switzerland peel forward once again, they look so slick in the midfield but in front of goal are rushing their passes. A little bit more patience and they could squeak ahead before the break.
38 min: This is such a tasty match, it’s quite frosty between both sides in this crucial game.
36 min: A weak cross dribbles into Runarsdottir’s hands but Switzerland are getting joy down the left through Riesen.
35 min: Boos rain down from the stands as yet another Iceland player, this time Jonsdottir, is down. She is quickly back to her feet but she wins a free kick. The delivery is good but Peng reads it clearly to collect.
34 min: Switzerland take it short and work it into the box. It comes back out but Calligaris’ chip in has too much on it. Gudny Arnadottir is now off for Heidarsdottir as that hamstring injury proves too much.
31 min: Gudny Arnadottir quickly pulled up with what looks like a hamstring injury as Switzerland win a corner. But they now go on without her.

No goal. Johannsdottir came back on before the set piece and gets fouled and so it is out.

28 min: Beney wins a corner and this feels like a key moment to take a bit of control of this match.
28 min: Johannsdottir looks in some pain as she comes off for some treatment, it’s unclear if she will continue at the moment.
26 min: A cynical foul from Johannsdottir on Walti, who was on her way to a counterattack. The yellows are clocking up, it is exactly how Iceland received a red card in their opening game with a second yellow. Switzerland take the free kick but Iceland do very well to wrestle it back, Johannsdottir receiving treatment now.
25 min: Switzerland win a free kick and Sigurdardottir gets a yellow card to boot for a blatant shirt pull. They take it quickly but Iceland win it back then there’s another injury, this time to Vilhjalmsdottir. She is back to her feet now, so many stoppages so far in this match. Iceland win a free kick as a result but it’s cleared.
23 min: An absolute peach of a ball comes into the box for Iceland but Calligaris reads it well to clear. Play in the final thirds of both ends just not clinical enough so far to trouble either keeper.
21 min: Schertenleib is showing exactly why she has won the starting shirt this evening, she is causing Iceland all kinds of issues.
19 min: Hosts Switzerland win a free kick as Jonsdottir fouls Reuteler, it’s in a good position. The delivery from Vallotto isn’t brilliant and Runarsdottir saves easily.
17 min: Iceland are peppering the Switzerland goal but they can’t quite get it over the line. Brynjarsdottir is down after a hit to the face but she is back without need for treatment. Peter Oh says:

15 min: Iceland really trying to press Switzerland and it inspires their fans into a Viking Thunder Clap.
13 min: Jonsdottir is back to her feet and looking able to carry on which is very good news.
11 min: Hang on, the TV maths is correct. This is why I work with words! Iceland would be out as if they lose this evening, they would need Switzerland and Finland to lose in the last round of group matches to have a chance which is impossible as they are playing one another. There is a break in play as Jonsdottir receives some treatment, no foul given but it looked like a painful one.
9 min: “Banana bread is also not bread,” says Kendrick Curtis. “And you’ll be mad as hell when you discover what a Pontefact cake is!!” Okay, I did Google it and it has in fact blown my mind that it’s called cake but it’s a sweet. It’s just like Jaffa Cakes, they are a biscuit.
Also the commentary say if Iceland lose this game, they are out of the tournament. My maths does not link up with theirs through the various permutations but I will trust the TV for now.
6 min: Every time Switzerland get a hint of an attack the crowd are in full voice, the atmosphere is amazing in Bern. The supporters are also not letting a little rain dampen their spirits either.
4 min: Switzerland win a corner now, end-to-end stuff early on. The delivery was good but Stierli fires over. Joe Pearson has got in touch about my shortbread quandary and said:
According to our good friend Wikipedia, it is based on an old meaning of ‘short’ meaning crumbly, as opposed to ‘long’ which meant stretchy. Also, you might note that shortbread and shortcake are supposedly interchangeable in the UK, whereas they are completely different things in the US. That’s all I got.
Yes, maybe the interchangeability has something to do with it. The bread use is just so confusing, it’s definitely a biscuit.
2 min: Oh my word Iceland rattle the bar already, wow. A one touch attempt by Sigurdardottir hits the crossbar.

Norway extended their perfect start to the Euros with a 2-1 win over Finland earlier today. They did need some late Caroline Graham Hansen magic to do so but they pull off another narrow win. This means Norway will be top of the group heading into the last round of group matches no matter what the result between Switzerland and Finland as Norway now have six points.

Hello and welcome to the Group A match between Switzerland v Iceland at Euro 2025. Both nations are searching for their first wins of the tournament.
Hosts Switzerland lost 2-1 to Norway in their opener, while Iceland fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Finland. As well as having no winning momentum, Iceland will have to deal with the suspension of Hildur Antonsdóttir as she received a red card in the opening game.
The rest of the team news will be dropping shortly and I will bring you all the changes and headline news. There will also be updates from the other match in this group which is just finishing between Norway and Finland. So stay tuned before kick-off at 8pm BST.
